T he rich heritage of Oregon's Mt. Hood Territory beckons current day explorers from young to old. Native Americans settled in the foothills of Mt. Hood and throughout the fertile river valleys thousands of years before the pioneers made their way over the Oregon Trail and Barlow Road from 1843 to 1866 with the promise of "Free land in Oregon." Both agriculture and timber played major roles in the establishment and growth of our communities .   The Mt. Hood Territory has evolved to keep pace with the world, but the pioneers would be proud of how the region has maintained its love of and commitment to the land.

Hood include the area from Alder Creek to Government Camp and the communities in between (Brightwood, Wemme, Welches, Zig Zag, and Rhododendron). The Villages at Mt. Hood community is a nationally recognized, year round, world-class recreational area enjoyed by visitors and residents alike. The community has worked to effectively improve the inclusion, the opportunities, the education, and the language and communication skills of all citizens.
